direction

So I hung out with my good friend Anna Craig yesterday and she showed me all of the art she's been doing. Nothing is healthier for an artist than to be around other ambitious artists. So I went home and got to work on this piece.  I didn't really know what I wanted to do with the composition when I started, but it quickly developed into a personal piece that I'm pretty happy with. I did the line art traditionally and the colors/details digitally.

ALSO. In the process of finishing up, I accidentally used paint bucket on the shadow layer and this happened:

Kinda cool, right?

Greyhound Bus Sketches

Keeping myself entertained for the 6 1/2 days on a greyhound bus with pen and water colors.

Man does time fly.

This month has been crazy busy. I started a volunteer job at a Wildlife Center and my friends and I just got back from a 11 day greyhound bus trip across the country. That being said, I'm guilty of completely throwing this month's challenges out the window. I did end up getting a couple character designs done, but none that I ever ended up truly being happy with. Now that I'm back and settled in Sarasota, I hope to really get back in the swing of things. I don't though I'm going to go back to doing any monthly challenges though- other than drawing SOMETHING every day (but that's a given, and more of a lifetime challenge than a monthly one)- because sometimes it can actually stifle your creativity.

In need of a massive update.

I've been on track with my character developments but I've been super lazy with updating. I don't feel like any of them are entirely finished yet and I doubt I will be posting all 30 over the course of this month, but expect to see some of them fairly soon.

On an entirely different note, I got bored and decided to doodle on photoshop. This happened. It seems like the cover of a book or a comic or something. Or a blog header. I just wish "house ghost" held some sort of significance hah. Maybe I'll incorporate somehow it into one of my upcoming zines. Anyways, I liked it enough to post. I'm a sucker for blues, browns, and yellows.

June 1st

May has come and gone and so have the daily portraits. I really learned a lot this month and I felt like I improved quite a bit. I ended up not having enough time to do portraits of some of my close friends like Taylor, Kaleb, Meagan, or Susan, which is a shame. But I will definitely continue to do portraits in the future because there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Since today is the first of June, I will be starting my next 30 day challenge which is a daily character development.  I can tell this one is going to be fun because it's a super loose challenge and it will be easy to do while I'm in California (hopefully). I'm also going to be doing a still life every friday (I think I stole that idea from Tabia). So I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me today, which is fine, because it's been raining since the moment I woke up. Perfect weather to be an art hermit.
